The Grief-Eater

Grief Eater.webp

NPC Summary

Type: Minor Fey Entity
Role: Session 01 Antagonist
Status: Destroyed — Session 01 - The Convergence
First Appeared: Session 01 - The Convergence

Description

Appearance: A too-long neck bending at angles necks don't bend. A face that had once been human and had decided to stop. Tattered fabric that seems made of condensed shadow. Frost and flower petals drifting constantly around its form — a sign of both Courts' influence.

Voice: Like someone trying to speak while sobbing — broken, wet, gasping.

First impression from the party:

"It looks like the end of a finger with eyes on it, man."
Bo

Nature

The Grief-Eater is not malevolent by nature — it is simply hungry, and Boston in the wake of the World Series loss is a feast. It slipped through a crack in the veil opened by the city's collective despair.

Behavior:

Combat — Session 01

The Grief-Eater was fought by the full party inside Blount Fisheries.

Notable moments:

The killing blow:

"I see it start to open its mouth. And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. And I slap shot it right across the jaw. Whack! Dislocate its mouth."
Jacques

The bottom half of its face sailed across the facility and landed in a vat of rotted fish bones.

Last Words

As it came apart — threads of shadow, frost crystallizing and shattering, flower petals blooming and dying — it spoke in a language only Bo understood. His translation:

"The harvest was denied. The courts will remember. Winter judges. Summer rages. The Green One dreams of walking…"
