Gary Phelps

Description

Appearance: Mid-fifties, perpetually a little rumpled, the kind of man who has a flask on him at all times and doesn't particularly try to hide it. Red Sox cap. Always a Red Sox cap.

Personality: Sceptical of almost everything — including, sometimes, the Society he's been a member of for fifteen years. More of a talker than an investigator. Still shows up, though. That has to count for something.

Voice / Mannerisms: Grumbles. Has strong opinions about the Red Sox that he will share whether you asked or not. Uses humour to avoid taking anything too seriously, including actual supernatural events.

Background

Gary joined the Boston Paranormal Society under circumstances he no longer likes to explain. He mostly attends meetings, complains about the Red Sox, and occasionally helps carry equipment to sites that other people investigate.

He was not present at Fort Point Channel on the night of October 10th. He was, in all likelihood, somewhere complaining about Game 7.

After Session 02 - Telephone

When Leonard returned to the Society during the 10-day downtime and tried to explain what had happened to Diane, Gary did not believe a word of it — and he was not quiet about it. He holds Leonard directly responsible for dragging Diane out to Long Wharf on Leonard's own homemade readings and coming back without her. The ghost story, from Gary's perspective, is either a coping fantasy or a cover for something worse. None of the other members believe it either, but Gary is the one saying so out loud and refusing to let it drop.

This is the first real breach in a friendship that previously ran on Gary finding Leonard's enthusiasm charming. Whether it heals depends on whether Diane wakes up.
